Put the wrong fuel in? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. It’s a common mistake and nothing we can’t help with. If you stopped at a petrol station, put it into neutral and push your car to a safe location. How can I tell if I’ve misfuelled?

If you’ve put petrol into a diesel car:

  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Loud engine or noise coming from the engine
  • Difficulty starting the car

If you’ve put diesel into a petrol car:

  • Excessive smoke coming from the exhaust
  • Lack of power
  • The engine is misfiring
  • Engine constantly cutting out or not restarting

What should I do?
